Wanderers finally appoint new manager

BOLTON Wanderers have finally appointed their new manager after weeks of deliberation.

The newly-relegated League One club has installed Phil Parkinson, 48, as the new boss.

Wanderers confirmed the deal with Parkinson and his assistant Steve Parkin on a two-year contract at the weekend.

According to reports in The Bolton News, a deal was agreed with Parkinson’s former club Bradford City to bring him to the Macron Stadium ahead of front-runners Steve Cotterill and Nigel Adkins.

Bolton chairman Ken Anderson said Wanderers would not pay Bradford compensation, but The Bolton News said a financial agreement had been reached by the two clubs at the back end of last week.

Meanwhile, Bolton Wanderers Suporters Association said it welcomes the appointment after waiting 12 weeks since the departure of Neil Lennon.
In a statement, the BWSA said it wishes “Phil and his backroom team, Steve Parkin, Nick Allenby and Lee Butler every success and look forward to reviving Bolton Wanderers’ fortunes together.”

Parkinson was the fifth longest-serving manager in the Football League and was moving towards his fifth season at Valley Parade.
