Hire firm plants new roots
PLANT hire firm Smiths Equipment Hire is expanding to bigger premises in Blackburn.
The £4m turnover company is currently based at King Street in the town, but is now moving to significantly larger premises at Bank Top.
Director David Smith said the move will allow the company, which also has sites in Bolton, Preston, Kirkham, St Annes, Cleveleys, Blackpool and Manchester, to allow for further growth and to expand its range of larger hire vehicles and equipment.
The new premises comprises 13,500 sq ft of space with 10,000 sq ft of parking. The King Street site had just 4,000 sq ft.
Smiths has operated from Blackburn for 10 years. The family-owned business is run by David Smith alongside his brothers, Thomas and Neil.
“We have a great team in Blackburn and there is real opportunity in the town for future growth,” said David.
Smiths was advised on the relocation by Martin Long, partner in the commercial property team at law firm Napthens.
“This is the second expansion for Smiths in the last 12 months, and it is great to see a Lancashire business doing so well,” said Long.
