Standard Life Healthcare, which employs 350 customer advisers in the town and the same number in Bournemouth, has already cut 48 staff across both sites.

More job losses cannot be rules out and a consultation with staff began yesterday.

The Edinburgh-based group said it was going through a period of transformation to make the business more efficient.

Last month Standard Life announced plans to save £75m over the next two years to combat a fall in revenues.
