The Cube development squared off

MANCHESTER Ship Canal Developments (MSCD) – the joint venture partnership between developer Peel Land & Property and Manchester City Council – has completed the new Cube apartments scheme within its Eastbank project at New Islington.

The project is one of the first schemes in the city which received Kickstart funding from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to be completed.

The scheme received £4.93m of HCA funding to help deliver the crucial residential phase of the project. Construction of the homes was carried out by Trafford-based contractor Russells Construction.

The Cube has 33 one- and two- bedroom apartments for sale in Ancoats, close to the city centre. Some 24 apartments have already sold off-plan and a shared equity scheme is in planning for the New Year.

Eastbank is based close to Piccadilly railway station and is within walking distance of Sports City.

Peel’s development director James Whittaker said: “The fact that this is one of the first projects with Kickstart funding to be completing is testament to our long working partnership with the City Council and relationships with valued contractors.

“The HCA funding enabled us to to show exactly how the private and public sector can work together to deliver outstanding city centre homes.

Gareth Russell of Russells Construction, said: “We are delighted to have completed The Cube on schedule, which is thanks to the hard work of everyone involved, right the way along the supply chain.

“This was an exciting project to be a part of and represents the commitment all the partners have to regenerating this part of the city.”
