Macdonald opens second Manchester hotel
SCOTTISH leisure group Macdonald Hotels and Resorts has opened a second hotel in Manchester city centre.
It has acquired and refurbished the Princess on Portland Street, an 85-bed boutique hotel which it has rebranded as the Macdonald Townhouse Hotel.
Privately-owned Macdonald opened its first Manchester hotel in 2007, investing £50m in transforming the iconic former BT building near Piccadilly train station into a 338-bedroom hotel with spa.
It has spent £3.5m on the makeover of the Grade II-listed Victorian building, a former cotton warehouse.
The Townhouse is the company’s 11th site in the region, including several hotels in the Lake District and the Portal Spa and golf resort in Tarporley, Cheshire.
