Director of the Year Awards open for nominations

THE Institute of Directors is inviting nominations for its North West Director of the Year Awards 2009.

Now in its sixth year, the Director of the Year Awards will highlight the successes of those directors who have defied the odds in tough market conditions.

Darrell Matthews, regional director for the IoD in the North West, said: “It has been an incredibly tough year for the North West economy, but despite the gloom, there are still some rays of light and plenty of hope for the future of enterprise in this region.

“There are lots of talented individuals who are continuing to succeed in the economy of 2009, and it is important that we celebrate their achievements. Highlighting the success of others is an excellent way to encourage recovery and growth in our region – all business leaders should think hard and nominate someone who is leading the way out of recession.”

Winners at last year’s event included Steve Corcoran of Speedy Hire, Peter Barton of Forge Europa,  Imran Hakim of iTeddy, and Jeremy Gorick of Liquid Plastics.

As with last year’s awards, the categories are split into Director of the Year and Young Director of the Year for each of the IoD Branches in the North West, including Cheshire, Lancashire, Cumbria, Manchester and Liverpool, with an overall award capping off the ceremony.

Business leaders across the region are being encouraged to nominate contacts, colleagues or themselves. Nominations are open until May 22, and can be made online at www.armstrongcraven.co.uk/iod. The award ceremony will take place on October 7 at the Manchester Hilton.
