Iliad to open £30m Layla Hotel next June

LIVERPOOL-based developer Iliad Group is to open its long-awaited boutique five-star El Layla Hotel in the city next June.
The developer first revealed plans for the hotel, which will be based at the former Municipal Buildings on the corner of Dale Street and Sir Thomas Street in the city centre, back in 2005.
The 85-bed hotel will be run by Bespoke Hotels – the Buckinghamshire-based boutique hotel management company run by Julia Hands, who is the wife of city financier Guy Hands.
The firm said that this will ensure the quality of design, the materials used and the levels of service would be of an approporiate standard. Work has already started on site and the company hopes to open for business in early June.
A spokeswoman for the firm said that the redevelopment will involve the renovation of three existing buildings, which are a mix of Victorian, Art Deco and contemporary styles.
“The overall design of the hotel will embrace the characteristics within each part of the building, retaining the design and charm of the period, whilst embracing the best of modern design, technology and guest comfort,” said the spokeswoman.
Facilities planned include two new restaurants, a bar, gym, conference rooms and even its own cinema.
The project has been designed by Liverpool architects Falconer Chester, which was also responsible for the city’s Hope Street and Hard Day’s Night hotels.
