NW banker Bryce Glover to join Nationwide

NORTH West banker Bryce Glover is back in business, with a senior role at the Nationwide Building Society.

Mr Glover 48, left his Manchester-based role at Alliance & Leicester where he was managing director of its commercial banking arm in December after the bank’s takeover by Spanish giant Santander.

After a few months’ rest and having weighed-up his options, Mr Glover, a popular and respected figure in the North West business community, is joining Nationwide as as director of its commercial arm.

Although primarily known for personal financial services, Nationwide, the country’s largest building society, has a £20bn commercial loan book, mostly property-focused and 400 staff across nine offices.

Southport-born Mr Glover, who is starting his new job next week, will eventually relocate to Northampton, where the HQ of the commecial lending operation is based.

Although he could not be reached for comment, Mr Glover has told friends he is relishing his new challenge and is thrilled to be back in the mutual sector.

Before moving to Alliance & Leicester in 2003, he spent 13 years at The Co-operative Bank in Manchester, rising to executive director of corporate and business banking and sitting on the board.

During his time at the Co-op he funded the creation of the Nynex Arena (now called the MEN Arena) and also the Reebok Stadium in Bolton.
