Appointments: Enterprise Ventures boosts team; Speedy Hire’s non executive director retires; and more…

PRESTON-based venture capital firm Enterprise Ventures has appointed two new members to its team.

Darren Gowling joins as an investment director and will work with the companies existing growth capital team, investing in and managing a portfolio of companies.

Mike Bakewell will take the position of investment manager in the technology investment team, and will focus on investing in and managing high growth seed and early stage opportunities.

Mr Gowling and Mr Bakewell join the company from Alliance Fund Managers in Liverpool.

Mr Bakewell, said: “I am delighted to be joining EV, a company I have known for some time having completed a number of syndicated investments in the region with its technology investment team whilst at AFM. In the current climate, it is essential that we are able to exploit new technologies, to build new businesses”.

DAVID Galloway is to retire from the board of Speedy Hire, after eight years as non-executive director, from May 31, 2009. 

James Morley, appointed as non-executive director in April, will replace Mr Galloway as chairman of the company’s audit committee with from May 8, 2009.

BETH Wanono, a trainee solicitor at law firm Halliwells, has been elected as the Council of The Law Society’s representative for all trainee solicitors and legal practice course students.

Ms Wanono, who currently works in the insurance litigation department at Halliwells, will take up her new role in July 2009 and hold the position for two years.

Ms Wanono, said: “I’m looking forward to putting the views of my constituents forward to the Law Society, as well as communicating to trainees and law students exactly what the Law Society does, and encouraging others to get involved in the society. “

BROOKSON, one of the leading providers of accountancy, tax advice and other support services to contractors, has recruited two new additions to support its new service structure.

The company said chartered accountants Lesley Hodgson and Emma Moss will add a wealth of experience to the Brookson team.

Lesley will take up the position of director of limited company services while Emma will join as a finance manager overseeing the management accounting processes for limited company customers. 

Brookson’s managing director, Martin Hesketh, said: “These additions to the team will help drive our strategic direction and enhance delivery.  They bring real expertise which will be of great benefit to our customers.  We’re always looking to bring in people who can add value with specialist skills.”
