Brookson boosts customer base

WARRINGTON-based “umbrella” services firm Brookson has said that the number of self-employed people using its services increased by 24% in the last 12 months.

The company, which provides accountancy, tax and administrative support for self employed professionals such as freelancers and contractors, said that it had seen particularly strong interest in its limited company service, which is up 48% on the previous year.

The firm said that statistics showed there were more workers choosing to freelance as it offered more flexibility, variety of work and higher rates of pay.

Managing director Martin Hesketh said: “These figures are evidence of the company securing new business from existing freelancers and contractors and from those choosing to become a freelancer for the first time.

“By listening to our customers, we’ve been able to fine tune our offer accordingly and provide a service which gives them robust information on their finances.  Our proactivity ensures they also comply with tax legislation and make the most of their earnings.”

Brookson is majority owned by co-founders Rick and Carolyn Nevinson although a number of its management team also have smaller stakes. The last filed accounts for the group for the year to September 30 2009 show a pre-tax profit of £761,000 on sales of £44.1m.
