Property world gathers for RICS awards

THE North West’s property sector will gather in Manchester tonight for their annual awards event.
A total of 45 projects, ranging from Manchester’s historic Gorton Monastery to the Liverpool One shopping centre, are in the running for the RICS Awards.
The prizes will be revealed at a dinner at The City of Manchester Stadium.
Despite the challenging property market, RICS North West received nearly 70 entries.
Awards will be made across eight categories: uilding Conservation, Commercial, Community Benefit, Design and Innovation, Regeneration, Residential, Sustainability and Tourism & Leisure.
One winner will then land the Project of the Year accolade – the top-rated award presented to a nominee that has excelled across all eight categories and above all other submissions.
RICS chairman for the North West, Richard Kingsley, a chartered surveyor with McLeod & Aitken, said: “The number of entries we’ve received this year was certainly beyond our expectations given the present market conditions and is a clear demonstration of the excellent work that is continuing in the North West
“It just goes to show that despite the challenging economic climate, property professionals across the North West are still as committed as ever to the industry and to helping us to recognise and reward the important work carried out by chartered surveyors and other skilled specialists in our region.”
Last year’s winner of the ‘Project of the Year’ title was Manchester’s Beetham Tower.
The regional winners are automatically entered into the national RICS Awards.
