Oglesby recognised in New Year’s honours

MICHAEL Oglesby, the chairman of North West property group Bruntwood, has been recognised in the New Year’s honours list.
He has received a CBE for services to business and charity in the North West.
Privately-owned Bruntwood holds a porfolio of buildings across Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Birmingham. In the year to September, 2009, it turned over £97m and made an operating profit of £12.6m.
Mr Oglesby is also the chairman of Manchester’s inward investment body MIDAS and his company has been a major supporter of the Manchester International Festival in recent years.
Another North West business figure named in the honours was Martin Broughton who was knighted. Mr Broughton, the chairman of British Airways, was drafted in to oversee the sale of Liverpool Football Club which was bought by New England Sports Ventures in October.
Vernon Barker, the managing director of the First TransPennine Express rail service, received an OBE along with Prof Susan Cox the dean of Lancaster University Management School.
Other business-related honours include a CBE for David Frost, director-general of the British Chambers of Commerce, and a knighthood for Richard Lambert, the outgoing director general of the CBI.
