In brief: Gold for BBC team; Charity supports theatre; Lancashire network launched
BBC Radio Manchester has won a gold award for its news coverage at the prestigious Sony Radio Academy Awards. The station scooped the honour in the Breaking News category for its coverage of the rioting Rangers fans after the UEFA Cup final in Manchester last May.

NORTH West property charity norfox has donated £12,000 to Manchester’s Library Theatre Development Trust.
The money will support the Norfox Young People’s Theatre Company, which was established in 2007 with the aim of helping disadvantaged young people in Manchester take part in drama activity and develop their performing skills in a professional theatre environment.
Norfox Trustee Helen Thomas, from Meredith Thomas PR, presented the cheque at the first night of the company’s recent production of Fugee by Abi Morgan.

A new partnership organisation was launched in Lancashire today, with an event aimed at helping businesses understand what government support is available.
‘The Upturn – The Future is in Your Hands’ was being held at Preston North End’s Deepdale ground, where the Professional Institutes Lancashire was launched.
Workshops on leadership. finance, innovation and marketing were staged. The event was supported by Business Link Northwest and UCLan.
Khalid Saifullah, relationship manager for Business Link North West in Lancashire said, “This is a significant development for the businesses of Lancashire as now for the first time, they can have access to professional organisations via one body.”

European investment bank Altium has been appointed broker to Manchester-based IT security business NCC Group plc.
