Liverpool’s Central Village gets consent

LIVERPOOL City Council planners have approved two applications, which will allow work to start on site at the £160m Central Village development.

Planning has been granted for a 455 space multi-storey car park, with ground floor retail space on land between Heathfield, Back Bold Street and Renshaw Street and for modifications to the Copthorne Hotel, to provide 240 bedrooms, associated hotel facilities and ground floor retail space.

Millennium & Copthorne have entered into 20 year agreements to operate this Copthorne Hotel and the four-star Millennium Hotel at Central Village.

Asset development managers and co-owners Merepark also said that car park operator QPARK will lease the 455 space car park as part of a 35-year agreement.

Ian Jones, director of Altrincham-based Merepark, said: “The approvals are the catalyst to start work on site.

“We now have the green light to begin making Central Village a reality as the second phase of work will include construction of the multi-storey car park and relocation of the Network Rail Central Station maintenance depot and workforce onto land below the car park.

“The Network Rail depot relocation is significant because it frees up the remainder of the development site including the hotels and the boardwalk and work will commence this summer.”
