Enterprise wins major council contract

NORTH West support services group Enterprise has won a major long-term contract with a local authority to provide key services such as street cleaning and household waste collection.

Lancashire-based Enterprise did not disclose the value of the 23-year deal with Peterborough City Council, but similar outsourcing deals have been worth between £10m to £15m a year.

The partnership, aimed to give better value to local taxpayers, will see 600 council workers transfer to Enterprise, which employs 13,000 people at 150 locations nationwide.

Enterprise, which already works with more than 50 councils, will start running services in Peterborough from March 7.

Neil Kirkby, chief executive of Bamber Bridge-based Enterprise said: “We’re delighted that Peterborough City Council has decided to appoint us as a long-term partner.

“We look forward to welcoming the team into the new organisation and to harnessing their skills, experience and local knowledge as we improve existing services and develop new ones.”

Council deputy leader Cllr Matthew Lee said, “I’m convinced that Enterprise is the right long-term partner for Peterborough and I am excited about what this will mean for the services being provided through the strategic partnership.

“We’re aiming to ensure that our customers experience a seamless handover to Enterprise. Looking ahead, the partnership gives us the opportunity to improve the range and quality of services we provide and use Enterprise’s experience, systems and economies of scale to do it more efficiently.”
