Yorkshire Bank event to debate economic issues

FORMER Bank of England economic forecaster David Tinsley will give his verdict on the state of the national and regional economy at an event hosted by Yorkshire Bank’s Corporate and Structured Finance team.
Mr Tinsley, who is now an economist with Yorkshire Bank, will give his tale on the burning issue of this week – the shock fourth quarter GDP figures and the risk of ‘stagflation’ – a dangerous mix of high inflation, low growth and high unemployment.
In his role as UK economist at Yorkshire Bank, Mr Tinsley, who spent six years at the Bank of England, is responsible for analyzing and forecasting developments in the UK economy, including the future path of interest rates and the outlook for growth.
After presenting his thoughts on the outlook for interest rates, inflation and recovery, and the impact on the North West economy, Mr Tinsley will take part in a round-table debate with invited guests from the North West business and advisory community.
Among the issues in focus will the North West deals market. Roddy Kilpatrick, area director at Yorkshire Bank Corporate & Structured Finance, who is hosting the event, said: ” “Our pipeline is much improved which bodes well.
“There remains some uncertainty in the deals market given the cloudy macroeconomic picture but there will be deals to be transacted, particularly in the £25m-£100m enterprise value bracket.
“Quality rather than quantity of deal flow will still feature with the strongest businesses attracting investment and bank funding. The appetite of private equity houses continues to improve and we’ll see more evidence of this in the coming year.”
Recent deals for Yorkshire Bank Corporate & Structured Finance have included the acquisition of Altrincham-based BAS, the energy management company by Bridgepoint Development Capital.
Guests include: Jonathan Edwards of law firm DWF, Peter Higton, non-executive chairman of land remediation specialist KDC Contractors; Andy Gregory of private equity firm Key Capital; Johnathan Massey of Zeus Private Equity; Aziz Ul Haq of business advisers Deloitte; David Dodds of Rothschild; Chris Belsham of KPMG and Adrian Gare, a non-executive director of Leigh-based manufacturer Ionix Systems and biotech software firm Instem Life Sciences.
