ENER-G to create 100 jobs

SALFORD-based low carbon technology firm ENER-G plans to recruit 100 staff this year.
The company made the announcement yesterday as climate change minister Greg Barker opened a £2m extension to its headquarters.
The new building has doubled the size of ENER-G’s offices and provides additional space for manufacturing low carbon and renewable technologies, including biogas generation and combined heat and power systems (CHP).
The firm employs 760 people worldwide, with 560 of them in the UK, including 300 in Salford. Half of the new jobs will be based in the UK, with at least 25 in Salford where it plans to invest £250,000 in the manufacturing facility to double output.
Through a partnerships with local schools, colleges and universities the company is also training 20 young people on an apprenticeship scheme.
Chairman Tim Scott said: “Engineering and manufacturing businesses like ours make a rich contribution to UK PLC. Continued Government support for sustainable energy is critical to building the new low carbon economy in which we operate and we were very pleased to have an opportunity to celebrate our success with the Minister and to discuss policies that can drive growth in the sector.”
Turnover grew 34% last year to £130m, with nearly half of this growth from export sales. ENER-G has operating companies, joint ventures and partnerships in 18 countries, including the UK, Hungary, the Netherlands, Romania, Lithuania, Italy, Norway, Poland, South Africa, Mexico and Spain.
Privately-owned Ener-G was set up in 1997 by Tim Scott to build combined heat and power systems.
