Preston unveils plans for Central Business District

PRESTON City Council is asking for developers, businesses and the public to give their views on its plan to create a new Central Business District.
The plans, which have just been published on the council’s website, are to create a new business district around Corporation Street, Ringway and Fishergate.
The council said that the new district would complement the proposed Tithebarn shopping scheme and help to deliver growth in the city by supplying better quality office stock.
Councillor Neil Cartwright, Cabinet Member for Development, said: “We need to maximise Preston’s potential as a great place to do business and invest.
“Preston is ideally located with excellent transport and communication links as well as a highly skilled workforce with access to high calibre graduates from the University of Central Lancashire.
“At the moment, there isn’t enough quality business and office accommodation in the city centre and the Central Business District aims to address this.
“There is strong interest from developers in the Central Business District but we need to get the planning framework right so that the area around Corporation Street, Ringway and Fishergate can develop in the right way for business and in the right way for Preston.”
