Training company targets further growth

NORTH West skills and training company Scientiam expects turnover this year to top £4m.
The Birkenhead-based company is confident it can maintain a strong path of growth which has seen sales rise from £2.2m in 2006 to a record £3.3m last year.
Scientiam, which was founded in 2001 and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wirral Metropolitan College, has contracts to deliver training programmes for Merseyside Learning and Skills Council and delivers a range of Government funded schemes to employers.
Led by managing director Amanda O’Shea Scientiam employs 50 people, who in the last 18 months have provided training to more than 1,000 individuals and 400 employers.
Ms O’Shea believes turnover this year will reach £4.5m and is looking to cast the company’s net wider to achieve its growth targets, and is focusing in particular on North Wales and Cheshire.
In terms of business sector expertise, she believes green energy and environment-related technology will be important growth areas for the North West and that Scientiam will have to invest in expertise to service demand in this area.
The company delivers programmes across all major sectors including construction catering and hospitality, sports and leisure and engineering.
Ms O’Shea said: “We work hard and are a lean, focused organisation and are really pleased with our results and the prospects for growth.
“We want to partner with any employer keen to improve their workforce’s skills. This may be to help the business grow, by learning new skills to access new markets, or defend their current position, or it could be to plug skills gaps as a result of new technologies.
“The key is that we can design training programmes to fit a business or organisation’s needs. We can ensure organisations maximise the help and funding available from Government as well.”
