The Knowledge: Salford signs research deal with BT

THE University of Salford has signed an agreement with BT to collaborate on research and student placements.

The three-year deal puts the university among a group of research partners worldwide and will include visits between research teams to the university and BT’s innovation centre near Ipswich.

Salford, which is gearing up to open a new 100,000 sq ft media facility at Salford Quays later in the year, is also involved in a research and innovation framework for the Salford Quays development which includes the BBC, Cambridge University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The BT arrangement also includes opportunities for Salford students to take up internships, short-term fellowships and receive lectures from BT employees.

Sami Istephan of BT said: “We are looking forward to collaborating even more closely on a variety of projects at the dawn of a new era for the University at the heart of MediaCityUK, drawing on the wealth of expertise from our world-renowned researchers.
