Monarch contract helps Skywheels fly

AIRCRAFT wheel repairer Skywheels Group has signed a new three-year deal with Monarch Aircraft Engineering.
Under the terms of the contract it will provide wheel and brake maintenance as well as repair and overhaul services. The company said it worked on 3,000 wheels and 800 brake units last year.
Altrincham-based Skywheels was founded in 1991 by former Dan-Air employees. It works with airlines at Manchester Airport and 18 other bases around the UK.
The business has grown rapidly with staff numbers more than doubling to 34 in a year. The latest contract is expected to push the number of employees to 40 by the end of the year.
Director Chris Jones said: “Essentially we provide a similar service to the leading high-street tyre fitting and supplying specialists – but instead of cars, vans and trucks, we are focused on aircraft and predominantly commercial airliners.
“We plan to continue with our growth strategy both in the UK and whilst looking into new emerging markets globally, whilst new technology will allow us to incorporate new aircraft into our capability. The first requirement for such technology will come with the new Boeing-787 DreamLiner and we are currently putting in the frameworks and training to ensure we can provide support for this to our Manchester-based airlines.”
Monarch Aircraft Engineering is a sister company to Monarch Airlines and has bases at Manchester Airport and London Luton Airport providing maintenance, engineering and technical support.
