Casey improves sales and profits

THE Casey Group, the Rochdale-based construction and property development company, increased pre-tax profits by 24% to £879,367 in the year to July 31, 2010 as sales climbed by 14% to £48.4m.

The family-owned company, which was started in 1968, is best known for its construction and civil engineering work, but it has developed a number of its own housing schemes over the years. Recent housing developments have included The Rosewood scheme of executive homes at Hollingworth in Hyde, the Ewart Court apartments scheme at Hadfield in the High Peak and the Little Alex apartments scheme at Chorlton-cum-Hardy in south Manchester.

It has also built factory units for Kiren Foods in Rochdale and for Bodycote’s Metallurgical Coatings division in Macclesfield.

A directors’ report accompanying the group’s accounts state that its “overriding policy is one of continuous improvement in service and business performance”.

Two group companies – P Casey & Co and P Casey (Land Remediation) both achieved ISO9001 accreditation after its year end, while it said that a reduction in overheads meant that profits improved “despite the recession-based pressure on margins”.

“Although the construction industry experiences cyclical fluctuations, the mix of product and service offerings which make up to portfolio of the group assists in smoothing the effects of this variability.”

For instance, in recent years the company has carried out more work in the waste management sector and has also been involved in significant land reclamation projects.

The Casey Group employs around 400 people.
