Cotton broker beds down in Liverpool

PLEXUS Cotton Limited has taken 6,000 sq ft of office space at Rumford Investments’ 20 Chapel St building in Liverpool city centre.

The company, which was founded in 1990, operates a global network of partnerships involved in farming, warehousing, logistics and marketing of cotton. It owns the largest cotton-producing companies in Malawi and Mozambique, as well as substantial interests in Uganda, Zimbabwe and China.

Nick Earlam, chief executive of Plexus Cotton said: “We are very pleased to move to 20 Chapel Street and back to the City of Liverpool.

“The building is of a standard that allows us to achieve our goals without worrying about its functionality and we are delighted to return to the home of cotton’.”

Almost 42,000 sq ft of office space was taken by businesses at 20 Chapel Street in 2010 which represented around a fifth of the total space let in the city. Runford Investments has also let 4,200 sq ft of space in the city to Fujitsu.

William Coleman, marketing manager for Rumford Investments, said: “It is wonderful to welcome Plexus Cotton to 20 Chapel Street. The cotton trade is one of the foundations upon which Liverpool was built and it is marvellous to bring the industry into the building.

“Interest for the take up of further space is high and we hope to be announcing more lettings in the very near future.”

Letting agents on the building are Mason Owen, Hitchcock, Wright & Partners and DTZ.
