Liverpool devises Boat Show replacement

A NEW series of events to replace the Liverpool Boat Show is being hastily convened following a summit held in the city by Liverpool City Council leader Cllr Joe Anderson yesterday.
The “Spring on the Waterfront” event will start on April 29 and cover the same ten-day period during which the boat show was meant to be held prior to the announcement last week by organiser Marine Industry Events that it had been forced to pull the show.
The summit held yesterday brought in representatives from several public and private sector organisations – all of whom were pledging support for the replacement programme.
These include the Albert Dock Company, National Museums Liverpool, British Waterways, Liverpool Yacht Club, the Chamber of Commerce, The Mersey Partnership and shopping centre Liverpool One.
Although plans are still at an early stage, a programme of events is planned including a comedy festival, regatta, the Tall Ships festival and a Liverpool Shanty Festival.
“We are already making good progress on a replacement event and with continued support from our partners I am confident Liverpool will develop a memorable 10 day programme of waterfront activity,” said Anderson.
“It also means that Liverpool will be making best use of its main attractions in 2011 because we also have major events on the water in the summer and the autumn.”
