BAM completes £12.5m West Cheshire College job

SALFORD-based contractor BAM has completed the first phase of construction at West Cheshire College’s transformation.

The firm said that the £12.5m project to build the new Handbridge campus at Chester had kept 1,400 people in the North West employed for a total of more than 440,000 man hours.

“We always take the view at BAM that we should give something back to communities where we build. Subject to meeting our rigorous standards, we therefore select our materials and sub-contractors as locally as possible,” said project manager Howard Mainwaring.

“Three quarters of our sub-contractor contracts in excess of £100,000 were placed with firms within the region, totaling around £5million alone.

“That’s a significant contribution to the local economy and a good way to support the work of the college.”

The new three-storey steel and concrete-framed building opens this week.
