Cheshire car dealership hits the brakes

A CAR dealership firm which operated Citroen, Peugeot and Honda dealerships in Northwich has been placed into administration.

Charles Barber & Sons, which was run by director Edward Barber and his family, appointed Alan Tomlinson and Paul Barber from the Manchester office of Begbies Traynor as joint administrators of the company on February 15.

A subsidiary firm, Birtwistle & Co, was also placed into administration last month. It operated the Peugeot dealership which was based at the same address.

The last filed accounts for Charles Barber & Sons Ltd for the year to March 31, 2008, show that the business declared a pre-tax loss of £302,000 on sales of £4.3m. At the time, it employed 50 people.

A spokeswoman for Begbies Traynor confirmed that both businesses had since ceased trading. All of the group’s remaining stock and assets have also been sold off at auction.
