Radio producers look to TV at conference

KEY members of the radio industry will head to Salford Quays next week for RPIN 2011.

The event, aimed at independent production companies, individual producers, freelancers and those starting out in radio, will examine how producers can sell their work overseas.

There will also be an appearance from Richard Horwood, the man bidding for the licence to broadcast the national ‘spine’ of Britain’s newest digital terrestrial television network.

He is appealing to the UK’s radio producers to consider producing content for the new channel.

Conference founder Ashley Byrne said: “I’m really looking forward to hearing what Richard has to say. Radio indies are making award-winning, quality radio documentaries, drama and comedy all year round – and all on very tight budgets.

“There’s a tendency to think radio people can’t do TV and TV people can’t do radio. We all know that’s nonsense and engaging with radio indies would bring a fresh approach and fresh ideas about what makes great content on television.”

The secretary-general of the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association, Sally-Ann Wilson, will also be speaking. The organisation represents programme makers and broadcasters in more than 50 independent Commonwealth states.

Other speakers include new commissioning editor for BBC World Service English Jeremy Skeet and RTE1 commissioning editor Lorelei Harris.

The conference will be held on March 22 at the Lowry, Salford Quays. For more information go to: http://www.eventelephant.com/rpin2011 for further information about tickets.
