More jobs go at Lloyds

BANKING giant Lloyds is to cut 50 jobs in Manchester and 140 jobs at its office in Chester.

The positions are among 570 being axed at sites around the country in the group’s wholesale, retail, insurance and human resources divisions.

A further 560 jobs will be outsourced to other firms, affecting cheque and credit processing, mailroom and payroll functions.

The move follows an announcement in October that 280 jobs will be lost at an IT centre in Chester, and that a further 170 permanent roles will be affected at its Greater Manchester centre in Wythenshawe.

In a statement the bank said: “Lloyds Banking Group is committed to working through these changes with employees in a careful and sensitive way. All affected employees have been briefed by their line manager.

“The group’s union partners – Accord, GMB, LTU and Unite – were consulted prior to this announcement and will continue to be consulted throughout the process.

“The group’s policy is always to use natural turnover and to redeploy people wherever possible to retain their expertise and knowledge within the group. Where it is necessary for employees to leave the company, it will look to achieve this by offering voluntary severance. Compulsory redundancies will always be a last resort.”

Nearly 27,000 jobs have now been lost since Lloyds merged with HBOS two years ago.
