Soho House tells members that October 2025 opening is ON

How Soho House Manchester could look

Private members club Soho House has written to members insisting that they will be opening in Manchester in October 2025.

On Wednesday TheBusinessDesk.com reported that the New York stock market listed club, and the property developer of the St John’s neighbourhood, were unable to pin down a 2025 date.

Yesterday, in a message seen by TheBusinessDesk.com, Soho House said: “We are excited to announce that Soho House Manchester will be opening in October this year. In the meantime, keep an eye out for more regular updates on our progress as we look forward to welcoming you to your new House.”

Despite being offered the opportunity to reassure paying members, a Soho House spokesperson only told theBusinessDesk.com that they were unable to give an exact date for the launch, but that details would be announced shortly.

“Due to various delays and things going on, we haven’t been able to confirm a date to our members yet,” the spokesperson said.

But now the company has come out and said that the Manchester site will be ready in October on the top of the old Granada Television building on Quay Street.

The lower floors will house a Mollie’s hotel and diner, a brand linked to Soho House Group founder Nick Jones.

The first opening date for the prestigious club was 2022, but that target was missed due to “unforeseen construction delays”.

The new Soho House Manchester will be spread across the floors of the old television studios and include a gym, rooftop pool, live music space and a members’ restaurant.

There will be 23 bedrooms on the sixth floor, plus a two-bedroom private apartment and an events space on the seventh floor.

Membership costs £2,950 a year for access to over 40 Soho Houses globally, and £1,925 a year for access to Soho House Manchester only.

Entrepreneur Christine Cort, founding director of the Manchester International Festival, and now spearheading cultural and leisure projects in Lancashire, commented on a LinkedIn post about Soho House Manchester: “I always believed that if a City had a Time Out and a Soho House (along with about a 100 other things I care about) it would be a great place to live, visit and do business in. Although the world has changed and those brands have been through various incarnations, I still welcome Soho House with an open heart.”

Other voices were more sceptical, to which developer Mike Ingall commented with two “yawn” emojis.

In the annual results announced in March, no mention was made of an imminent Manchester launch, despite Soho House & Co Inc successfully opening three new Soho Houses in 2024: Portland (Oregon, USA) in March, Sao Paulo (Brasil) in June, and Mews House (London) in September. Additionally, Scorpios Bodrum (Turkey) was opened in June.

The company reported a total of 45 Houses worldwide by the end of 2024. Membership numbers continued to grow, with Soho House members reaching 212,447, a 9.6% increase year-over-year.

In December 2024 the New York stock market listed company received an offer from a third-party consortium to take the business private for $9.00 per share.
