25 jobs lost at protective clothing firm

TWENTY five workers at a 90-year-old protective clothing business Sorsky have lost their jobs after it went into administration.
Paul Flint and Brian Green of the accountancy firm KPMG were appointed to the firm on March 9 and immediately cut two-thirds of the 40-strong workforce.
They are running the business as a going concern and looking for a buyer.
Based in Widnes, Cheshire, the company supplies a range of workwear, personal protective equipment and hygiene products for companies operating in a number of sectors.
In a statement Mr Flint said: “We are continuing to try and trade the business while we seek a going concern sale for the business and its assets. Any interested parties should contact us as soon as possible.”
He gave no explanation for financial problems at the business which is owned by Yeoward Brothers, also based in Widnes. Sorsky was Yeoward Brothers’ main business and its most recent filed accounts for the year to September 2009 show it posted a loss.
In their report the directors, including Canary Islands-based chairman Anthony Yeoward, said it had been “another difficult year” citing “fierce competitor activity”. Sales dipped 2% to £8.7m and it made a pre-tax loss of £39,000, down from the previous year’s £86,000.
