Deloitte expands student support scheme

ACCOUNTANCY firm Deloitte is adding 10 places to its scholarship scheme which offers students a work placement and financial support.

The firm will now offer 50 school leavers, who have achieved at least an A grade and two Bs in their A Levels, a 30-week paid work placement and a £1,500 bursary to support travel or overseas volunteering.

When they start their degrees the firm will also pay £1,500 a year towards academic fees and guarantee a four-week paid work placement during every year of their studies.

Tim Edge, a partner in Deloitte’s audit practice responsible for talent in the North West, said: “We understand that not all school leavers are the same and we want to treat them as individuals. We have therefore worked on different packages, to give students the option to set their own career path with Deloitte.

“Fifty successful students per year will be supported by Deloitte through the Scholar Scheme straight from their A-levels through to the start of their career. They will be getting the university experience as well as a minimum of four weeks of paid, hands on work experience with Deloitte each year.”

Crystal Eisinger, who is studying social and political sciences at Cambridge University, said: “I spent the working part of my gap year in Deloitte’s tax team, where I worked with a leading oil company. I also gained experience in different parts of the firm, including consulting, and the public sector and financial services practices.

“The Scholar Scheme is so special because it allows you to grasp the scope of professional services and different industry areas before you apply for a graduate job.”
