Weightmans completes Mace & Jones merger

NATIONAL law Firm Weightmans, which already has a strong presence in Manchester and Liverpool, has announced that it has agreed terms with partners at North West law firm Mace & Jones for a merger.

The deal, which is set to complete in May, will create a law fuirm with a combined turnover of more than £75m and more than 1,000 people working for it – 770 of whom will be based in the North West.

Commenting on the merger, Weightmans’ managing partner Patrick Gaul said: “As the talks with Mace & Jones have progressed it has become increasingly clear that our two firms are very well matched.

“We have similar cultures and values and a shared commitment to maintaining the highest standards in our dealings with our people and clients.

“Continuing growth will also create an even more robust and sustainable firm for the future and enable us to meet the challenges ahead in the legal services market.”

Richard Corran, managing partner at Liverpool-based Mace & Jones said: “Our two firms have a great deal in common. We know each other well and share the same values.”

“Weightmans’ national reach will also allow us the opportunity to tap into new markets in London and the Midlands as well as offering a wider range of services to existing clients.”

Weightmans also recently completed a deal to acquire the insurance practice of law firm Vizards Wyeth.
