Bollin Group on the lookout for more brands

THE company which distributes makes such as Maglite torches and Ronhill outdoor clothing is looking for other brands to add to its portfolio.

Macclesfield-based Bollin Group is seeking complementary brands to “strengthen its position in the outdoor and sports market” according to its latest filed accounts.

The company saw earnings nearly double to £1.7m in the year to June on sales of £52.4m, up 10%. The directors expect the strong performance to continue this year.

During the year it reorganised the parts of its business which operate from a base in Hyde, Greater Manchester. The assets and trade of Sprayway and Hilly – set up by former marathon champion Ron Hill – were transferred to the Outdoor & Sports Company.

“This combines the group’s outdoor and running brands (Sprayway, Mountain Equipment, Aztec, Ronhill and Hilly) into one organisation. The brands are still managed as divisions receiving support in depth through specific sales and marketing, product design, sourcing and logistics,” said the directors in their report.

The group, which has around 300 staff, is owned by a trust that is controlled by Beverly Berryman, Hugh Turner and Carole Fahy. Managing director Stephen Cann is also a shareholder along with Fiona and Charles Cann. The company declined a request to discuss the figures.
