Former HSS chief drafted into Enterprise

ALAN Peterson, the former head of tool hire firm HSS, has been parachuted in as executive chairman at support services group Enterprise.

The move comes as a document filed at Companies House has confirmed the departure of chief executive Neil Kirkby.

He is understood to have left the Preston-based business about a month ago but Enterprise has refused to discuss his departure. Mr Kirkby, pictured, joined as finance director in 2003 and was promoted to the top job two years ago.

Mr Peterson was hired by 3i, the private equity firm that took Enterprise private in 2007.

He told The Sunday Times that he was not coming in to “slash and burn” but toNeil Kirkby make the business “more lean and efficient”, although lay-offs were unlikely.

He said: “This is my fifth 3i chairmanship. I make sure not to choose pups when I go into these things. I have a hands on approach and a reputation for injecting growth.”

Enterprise has grown rapidly since delisting in May 2007. The group employs 13,000 staff carrying out infrastructure repairs and maintenance for utility companies. It also handles street cleaning, grounds maintenance, contact centres contracts and repairs to social housing stock.

Enterprise declined to comment when contacted by TheBusinessDesk.com
