FWP hands over new stand at Fleetwood Town

ARCHITECT Frank Whittle Partnership (FWP) has unveiled first phase of a £4.5m sports stadium project at Fleetwood Town in Lancashire.

Preston-based FWP, has been working on the 2,000-seat stand at the Blue Square Premier club for the past year. It opened last weekend when Fleetwood played Altrincham.

The work has been carried out to increase the capacity of Fleetwood’s Highbury ground to 5,000 to meet Football League requirements. The club is hoping to secure a play-off place at the end of this season that will give it a chance of promotion to the Football League.

The new stand houses community, commercial, corporate and club facilities. It includes offices for local businesses, a club shop, new changing rooms and hospitality suites.

Brent Clayton, partner at FWP, said: “We have created something really special, not just for the club but for the whole community and we know fans can’t wait to see what is in store for them once the stand is fully operational.

“As in all our sports work we aim to bring the vision to realise a club’s ambition and match designs to their budget.

FWP is also working with Football League clubs Peterborough and Swindon Town on their ground development plans, along with a number of non-league clubs including Barrow and FC Fylde.

The project has been managed by Partington Associates of Chorley.
