Video: Which businesses can benefit from an apprentice?

EMPLOYERS and businesses are being encouraged to take on apprentices to tap into the vast pool of young talent in the UK.
But which businesses can most benefit from taking on an apprentice?
In this video report David Way from the National Apprenticeship Service, apprentice Sumaira Niazi and Liza Okafor from Tubelines discuss how apprenticeships can work for different businesses and some of the benefits they can bring.
TheBusinessDesk asked the panel whether an apprentice could potentially be seen as another drain on immediate resources and costs, particularly in a recession.
Mr Way said: “All the employers I talk to are very clear that it brings bottom line benefits. We’ve talked about productivity and a reduction in [staff] turnover, so people stay with the company longer.
“If as an individual you get to work for someone and they care about your training, if they invest time and show that they care about your development and future then you want to stay and get more of that. Apprentices are good for business for these reasons.”
