B&M tops fast-growing firms list

DISCOUNT retailer B&M Retail has been named as the top North West company in the Sunday Times PwC Profit Track 100 list for the second year.

The league table ranks Britain’s 100 private companies with the fastest-growing profits over the last three years of available audited accounts.

Speke-based B&M Retail, which was ranked 11th nationally, has recorded annual profit growth of 115%, taking sales from £3.3m in 2006 to £33m in 2009.

B&M and seven other North West companies have added 4,894 jobs during the past three years and now employ a total of 7,380 people. Profits have grown to a combined total of almost £76m.

The list also includes Warrington-based Appsense, which took a £43m investment from Goldman Sachs in February, Accrol Papers of Blackburn, and Meadow Foods in Chester which appears in the list for the first time.

The other four are: Alderley Edge-based Chess Telecom; Blackpool’s Tangerine Confectionary; Airline Services, based in Manchester; and technical recruitment specialist Air Energi, also based in Manchester.
