Mitchell Charlesworth forges China links

NORTH West accountancy firm Mitchell Charlesworth has strengthened its links with an Anglo-Chinese law firm looking to create trade opportunities between North West and Chinese businesses.

Mitchell Charlesworth’s managing partner David Darlington led the trip to Christine Lee & Co’s office in Guangzhou, southern China.

Earlier this year Mitchell Charlesworth signed a formal partnership with the law firm, which also has offices in  London, Birmingham and Hong Kong.

Mr Darlington said: “Specifically it has strong links with the Chinese SME market. An estimated 250,000 Chinese SMEs actively want to do business in Britain. The type of business they want to do includes joint ventures, research and development and mergers and acquisitions.

“The stumbling block, however, is that many simply do not know how to do it and how to make contact with UK firms. The same goes for UK SMEs wanting to enter the China market. That is where our partnership comes in. We will act as a bridge between firms in the UK and China sharing contacts and expertise in the key areas of law and finance. We will help UK and Chinese SMEs find partners and make deals happen.”

Mr Darlington said the UK’s small firms could seize opportunities in chemical manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, financial services and property development. Markets that Chinese firms want to buy into include computer game development, household appliances, automotive parts and agricultural products such as fertiliser and animal food.

Mitchell Charlesworth has offices in Liverpool, Manchester, Chester, Warrington and Widnes.
