TMP unveils Mersey tourist awards shortlist

THE Mersey Partnership has revealed its shortlist for the annual TMP Tourism Awards.

The event, which will take place on May 26 at the BT Convention Centre, will honour the best of Merseyside’s hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions across 15 categories, including Hotel of the Year, Best Small and Large Visitor Attraction and Best Bar.

Eleven of the category winners will then be put forward to represent the city-region at the Enjoy England Excellence Awards later in the year.

A new category entitled ‘Culture and Heritage Experience’ has also been added to replace performance venue of the year and covers museums, theatres, galleries and performance venues as well as specific cultural programmes and events.

TMP’s visitor economy committee chair and Liverpool Football Club managing director, Ian Ayre, said: “The TMP Tourism Awards recognise the hard work and commitment across the visitor economy sector. The large number of entries shortlisted is testament to the exceptional quality of excellence in the venues and attractions across the city-region.”

TMP estimates that Liverpool’s visitor economy generates a spend of around £2.8bn and supports around 41,000 jobs in the area.
