International growth boosts Norkem

CHEMICALS wholesaler and distributor Norkem has reported an impressive jump in annual sales and profits, thanks to major international expansion.

The privately-owned group, which supplies a diverse range of chemical products, saw sales surge 60% in the year to December 31 2008, newly-filed accounts, reveal. Profits jumped too, from £710,000 in 2007 to £1.4m.

The company, which is based in Knutsford, Cheshire, has offices in Holland, China and most recently Spain, It employs 41 people.

Growth in international sales underpinnned the strong performance. While sales in the UK rose from £27m to £31m, income from the rest of the world rocketed from £7.5m to £24.5m.

In their report to the accounts the directors said: “Growth of the business in 2008 was a continued result of strategic decisions made in previous years to ensure the diverse nature of both product and geographical focus.

“Developing long term relationships with both customers and suppliers enabled the company to increase its product base.”

Norkem supplies a wide range of sectors, from food to construction and pharmaceuticals. 

In the food sector, leading products are Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid and Sodium Metabisulphite.
