Peter Kenyon to quit Chelsea role

FORMER Manchester United and Umbro boss Peter Kenyon is leaving his role as chief executive of Chelsea Football Club.

Mr Kenyon, who stunned football six years ago by defecting from Manchester United to the mega-rich London club, is leaving his full-time job at the end of next month, but will remain a non-executive director.

Originally from Stalybridge, Mr Kenyon, 54, said in a statement on the Chelsea website:”I think we have really built a club, in a relatively short space of time, that can be in the forefront of European football for many years to come. That is a major achievement.

“I intend to take a little time off before considering what to do next but I am certain I have at least one major challenge left in me.”

During his time at Stamford Bridge Mr Kenyon secured a number of lucrative sponsorships for the club, including deals with Adidas and Samsung.
