Ten Alps to continue with Teachers’ TV

TEN ALPS is to rebrand Teachers’ TV and run it on a subscription and advertising basis after losing Government funding.
The Department for Education pulled the plug on the channel – an online training site for British schoolteachers – following the spending review in October. The £10m contract ended on April 29.
In a statement to the stock market this morning AIM-listed Ten Alps said it had reached an agreement with the Government to continue to use Teachers’ TV’s stock of 3,500 videos under a new brand – Schoolsworld.tv
It said it plans to develop the service for pupils as well as teachers and seek international markets, such as Africa, where “sponsorship-driven” funding models will be explored.
“Ten Alps has been in discussion with both sovereign governments and companies as to how to best use this world-class education video library,” said the company.
Chairman Peter Bertram said: “We are delighted to have agreed with the Department for Education to continue providing this valuable, market-leading training resource to teachers and school staff beyond the end of government funding.”
The service, co-owned with ITV, began as a digital TV channel with a £20m budget but moved to broadband in 2009.
