City’s largest hotel could be built at Trafford Park

A DEVELOPER is seeking planning permission for what would be Greater Manchester’s largest hotel.
Councillors at Trafford Borough Council are expected to approve an application for a 775-bedroom hotel near Old Trafford when they meet tomorrow.
It would be more than twice as big as the city’s largest – the Macdonald Manchester with 338 rooms and the Midland Hotel, which has 312.
Manchester-based Adam Geoffrey Management has sought consent for the hotel, conference space and a nightclub at the vacant Victoria Warehouse, two redbrick Edwardian buildings one of which was well-known for the Trafford Park mural from 1982 to 2006.
According to planning documents it has promised a sympathetic conversion of the buildings and says the site would not be run by a major hotel chain. No one at Adam Geoffrey could be reached for comment.
The application has been opposed by commercial property business Segro, which owns an adjoining plot, and Premier Inn, which fears nightclub noise could disturb its customers.
But council officers believe the plan is an acceptable use of the site. “It is also considered that the external alterations to the building would enhance the appearance of the existing tired looking buildings and thus improve the view of this ‘gateway site’,” said a report.
