Broomhead to run Chester regen body

THE former head of the North West Regional Development Agency, Steven Broomhead, has been appointed as head Chester Renaissance – a new board set up to guide regeneration in the city.
Broomhead will lead a new board charged with guiding the progress of delivering the recently-announced One City plan for the area.
Mike Jones, leader of Cheshire West and Chester council, said: “We are delighted to secure someone of Steven’s calibre and reputation. He has huge experience of regeneration matters, regionally and nationally, with extensive knowledge of both the public and private sectors.
“Professor Broomhead will bring a fresh, determined and cohesive approach both to the marketing of Chester – highlighted by the ULI study – and our comprehensive development strategy via the One City Plan.”
The board will oversee city centre management and marketing for Chester’s city centre, as well as creating new events and offering support for local enterprises.
Broomhead said that the aim of Chester Renaissance was not just to improve the city’s economic wealth , but also to improve the quality of life for all of its residents.
He said: “Chester is famously Mrs Thatcher’s Jewel in the Crown of the North West. That jewel has become slightly tarnished but the One City Plan will repolish and restore the old glitter.”
