Jobs saved as food packaging firm buys rival

MORE than 100 jobs have been saved at a Lancashire cakeboard maker after it was bought from administrators by a Manchester rival.

Trafford Park-based paper and board company Doric Anderton has bought the business and assets of Burnley-based Food Packaging Ltd for an undisclosed sum.

It has acquired the £10m turnover company through new subsidiary, Food Packaging & Cakeboards.

The move has secured all 115 jobs at Food Packaging, which was placed into administration on October 7, with Dermot Power and Tracey Pye at BDO appointed joint administrators.

Robert Brace, a former director at Food Packaging has since been made a director at Food Packaging & Cakeboards, where he will continue to lead the business.

Mr Power said: “Due to the economic climate and difficult trading conditions the company was unable to continue trading.

“We are pleased that the sale of the business and assets has secured the transfer of 115 employees to the new company.”
