DPP Shape launches with Liverpool regen win

A NEWLY formed design and regeneration practice has been appointed to lead the creation of a strategic regeneration framework for North Liverpool.

DPP Shape, which hosts its official launch party in Manchester tonight, has been selected by Liverpool Vision and its partners to develop the collaborative proposal.

The framework will focus on neighbourhoods which have shared geography of the docklands edge stretching from Liverpool city centre out to Bootle. This area of the city has some of the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods in the UK and has been the subject of a number of major regeneration initiatives.

The Strategic Regeneration Framework will establish a long-term vision, as well as identifying the short and medium term initiatives which will set North Liverpool on the path to change.

Manchester-based DPP Shape, which operates as part of planning consultancy DPP LLP, is headed up by architect Mick Timpson, former principal and head of EDAW’s Manchester office; and regeneration practitioner Shelagh McNerney, a former director of EDAW.

Ms McNerney, managing director at DPP Shape, said: “North Liverpool is one of the most strategically important regeneration areas in the country and we relish the opportunity to work with local partnerships to re-shape regeneration strategies for positive change.”

Jim Gill, chief executive of Liverpool Vision, said: “North Liverpool has deep rooted problems, but it also has enormous potential on which to build a strong economy and sustainable communities. DPP Shape brings a strong, enthusiastic team with lots of ideas and experience.”

DPP Shape will be backed up by consultants including Keppie Massie, which will advise on strategic land acquisition; EGL, which will liaise with stakeholders and link with other initiatives in the city; Shared intelligence will provide research and economic components; while Arc4 will advise on housing strategy and delivery.
