Sceptre rolls out more machines

FRUIT machine supplier Sceptre Leisure said it is continuing to increase the number of machines it has in pubs and betting shops.

In a statement, issued ahead of the Preston-based firm’s annual general meeting today, chairman Douglas Yates told shareholders Sceptre had secured several new business wins and continued the “positive trend” established during its last financial year.

Sales for the five-month period to September 30, 2009 were £17.5m compared with £18m in the six months to October 31, 2008.

“The company operates in an evolving, dynamic marketplace where there remains much opportunity. Sceptre is well positioned to take advantage of that opportunity both through organic growth and through selected acquisition,” said Mr Yates.

He added the business was still negotiating with its bankers over the renewal and increase of its overdraft facilities. “These discussions are continuing to move forward in a positive manner and the board remains confident of resolving the matter in the near future.”

Earlier this month the group unveiled its figures for the year to April 30. During the period Sceptre saw sales grow from £21.3m last time to £39.2m, helped by the acquisition of Gamingking in September 2008 as part of a reverse takeover. Pre-tax profits dipped 11% to £1.5m affected by £236,000 restructuring costs.
