Amion to assess Government’s LEGI scheme
AMION Consulting, the Liverpool-based firm of regeneration and economic development consultants, has been appointed to evaluate the Government’s Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI).

AMION Consulting, the Liverpool-based firm of regeneration and economic development consultants, has been appointed to evaluate the Government’s Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI).

LEGI is a government programme which aims to release the economic potential of the most deprived local areas across the country through enterprise and investment.

The aim of the £420m programme is to boost local incomes and employment opportunities, and building sustainable communities. It runs until 2011 and is focused on twenty areas across the country.

As well as assessing the impact of the programme on businesses and residents, the Department of Communities and Local Government has appointed Amion to identify and help disseminate findings concerning best practice in the areas.

Six case study areas will be studied in detail: Blackpool, Bradford, Coventry, Croydon, St Helens and Wansbeck. The main report will be produced in spring 2010 and used to inform decisions on future Government policy in deprived areas.

Pete Stowe, director of Amion and the study manager, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed to undertake this work and hopefully provide a key source of evidence that will help inform Government decisions on the future of this important policy area.”
