Get out more! – Tourist chiefs baffled by Tevez comments

GREATER Manchester’s tourism boss has hit back over footballer Carlos Tevez’s negative comments about the city.
Paul Simpson, managing director of Visit Manchester, said Manchester City’s Argentine striker has a “narrow view” of the city, where he has lived for the last four years.
“He does seem to have a fairly narrow view of Manchester – his opinions are the exception rather than the rule as we welcome eight million staying visitors every year, including one million from abroad.
“In UK terms Manchester is number three behind the two capital cities, London and Edinburgh, and there’s clearly loads to do.”
Tevez told a talk show in Argentina that Manchester has “only two restaurants” and complained about the rain and that there is “nothing for his family to do” when they visit.
Mr Simpson said: “We can’t do anything about the weather, but in terms of there being nothing to do, then I think he needs to get out more as we have a superb nightlife and shopping.
” We have more than 100 restaurants listed in the Good Food Guide and five star hotels to stay at.”
Stephen Miles, general manager of the five star Radisson Edwardian Hotel in Manchester and chairman of the Manchester Hoteliers Association also condemned Tevez’s outburst.
He said:”For me Manchester is the second city in the UK, so these comments are just not a reflection of this fantastic, dynamic city.
“Maybe Carlos Tevez just hasn’t seen enough of the city and the North West from his home in Cheshire, but he has been here for four years , so it can’t be that bad.!”
