Scaffolder looks to build on French deal

A DEESIDE-based scaffolding group which employs more than 300 people has been sold to French building products firm Altrad for an undisclosed sum.

NSG UK provides scaffolding, access services, thermal insulation and industrial cleaning services to the construction industry. It has a turnover of £20m.

Montpelier-based Altrad said that the deal was part of a plan to broaden its own services to the sector as it is currently best known for providing scaffolding, cement mixers and wheelbarrows.

It will keep NSG UK’s managing director Mike Carr in charge of the company.

He said: “There is a tremendous opportunity for NSG UK to continue its growth with the support of the Altrad Group. We will be in a position to release further details of our future business plans in due course.”

Founded in 1971 NSG UK’s clients include Ineos Chlor Vinyls, Ineos Enterprises, Centrica, Balfour Beatty, Brunner Mond, shipbuilder Cammell Laird, Corus, Laing O’Rourke and Lilly amongst others.

The acquisition of NSG UK is Altrad Group’s fourth in the UK. The company also manufactures and sells cement mixers and wheelbarrows.
